Sports Massage Association Joins PARN

We are delighted to announce that the SMA joined PARN in September 2014.

The Sports Massage Association (SMA) is a not-for-profit professional association run by elected members for benefit of the membership. Its role is to further the profession of Soft Tissue Therapy including Sports Massage through representation on industry bodies, by supporting its members and promoting the profession of Sports Massage to potential users.

The English Institute of Sport along with other home country institutes and sports governing bodies found there was a significant demand for sports massage among sport participants. There was however a great deal of confusion as to who was appropriately qualified even among other health professionals working within sport. As a result in 1999 a Sports Massage Advisory Group was established to investigate the area. The group was chaired by chartered physiotherapist and sports massage practitioner, Joan Watt. In January 2002 the Sports Massage Association (SMA) was launched.
