Established in 1905, the National Association of Funeral Directors represents more than 3,700 UK funeral homes nationwide, UK and overseas suppliers to the profession and overseas funeral firms. Their role is to provide support and guidance to funeral firms and the bereaved families in their care. The National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), is recruiting for a challenging and rewarding newly created role of Chief Operating Officer.


About the role

Job Title: Chief Operating Officer
Location: Solihull
Salary: £55,000

Accountable to the CEO for delivery of all operations, this critical role shall have the primary responsibility of leading the day-to-day work and business of the Association in accordance with its strategic objectives. The COO will act as the CEO’s deputy in all matters and will be responsible for the efficiency of the Association.

Person Specification:
Educated to degree level or equivalent, self-motivated and outcome focused, the successful candidate is likely to have extensive experience in COO or other relevant roles leading operations. They will have a proven track record of business planning and project management, a sound understanding of business support functions such as HR, finance and IT, and will have successfully managed change. The successful candidate is likely to have prior experience of working in a professional body and/or regulated organisation.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills (able to communicate with people at all levels including members, Executive Committee and Board, staff, external advisers)
