The Society is a not-for-profit organisation and is the leading self-regulatory body for the practice of homeopathy in the UK. We are a membership organisation with just under 1,000 members, overseen by a Governing Board. The staff team deliver membership services and support members to maintain professional standards. The Professional Standards Authority accredits our register of members. We also work hard to raise public awareness of, and appreciation for, homeopathy.

The Board is made up of six Directors elected by the membership, all of whom are homeopaths, together with three Independent Directors (no involvement in the homeopathy profession) appointed by the Board. All Directors serve for a 3-year term.

We seek to appoint two exceptional people to be Independent Directors on the Society’s Board and who will help achieve our vision of excellence. We are looking for individuals who bring relevant experience, skills and passion to drive forward our strategic agenda.

In order to complement the existing skill mix of our Board, we would particularly welcome applications from candidates with specific skills in finance, marketing, healthcare, professional regulation or membership.

The successful candidate will bring insight and impartiality to the Board and provide advice and guidance to the Chair, the rest of the Board and the staff as necessary. Experience of the not for profit sector and an interest in our sector of healthcare are vital.

You will need to have the ability to give, on average, one day a month, including 4 board meetings and other meetings as required.  Meetings will be in Northampton or via an online platform.  Remuneration will be on a consultancy basis.

Please email your CV and covering statement to (with subject line as Independent Director Application)

The closing date for applications is 16 October 2020 and interviews will be held early November.

For further information visit the Society’s website or contact Stephen Bishop, Interim CEO on

Candidates will be given a copy of the Society’s Social Media Policy and may be asked to provide evidence that their social media complies with this policy.

We understand the benefits to our organisation of building a diverse Board. We therefore encourage applications from individuals with protected characteristics, particularly applicants who have a disability or who come from an ethnic minority background. We are prepared to make reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010.

In accordance with GDPR legislation we are required to inform you that should you apply for a role in the Society your details will be kept for a period of 14 months from application and then destroyed.
