Context
The recent government incursion into regulatory bodies in Ontario raises questions about the Canadian bodies’ right to self-regulate. Are these incursions a potential threat to the bodies’ right to self-regulate? How can bodies preserve self-regulation while complying with government mandates?
The presentations and discussion at the workshop will focus on how regulatory colleges can preserve self-regulation and the perceived threats to self-regulation. The presentation will look at self-regulation from an international perspective and discuss preliminary results from the PARN Professional Bodies International Benchmark Survey.
The second part of the program will raise the issues of volunteer management, understanding volunteers and maximizing volunteer contribution. Presentations will cover areas of volunteer management including: using volunteers as “experts” and for specific projects or task forces; the most effective induction and training for volunteers and the issues in relations between volunteers and staff.
