The Royal Society of Chemistry
(RSC) is seeking a Senior Governance Executive.
The RSC is the largest organisation in Europe for advancing the chemical
sciences. Supported by a worldwide
network of members and an international publishing business, its activities span
education, conferences, science policy and the promotion of chemistry to the
public.
ABOUT THIS ROLE
Location: London
Salary: £39,990 - £44,433 (plus London weighting £3054)

This vital role encompasses a
broad spectrum of activity, responsible primarily for ensuring effective
functioning of RSC governance through the Trustees and Leadership Team.
We are looking for a driven, self-motivated
expert who can support the Chief Executive and Leadership team in ensuring
compliance with the RSC Charter and by-laws, overseeing elections and ballots
and non-financial audit activity.
Your responsibility will encompass acting as
Secretary to Council ensuring decisions and recommendations are acted on
appropriately and maintaining an overview of bodies reporting to Council and
ensuring they comply with the governance structure.
This important role will
maintain an up to date knowledge of internal and external obligations relating
to governance and will not be afraid to challenge when necessary. Key to this
role is the ability to build and maintain a professional and credible relationship
with key senior figures within the RSC, Council and related bodies.
Essential
skills and qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- A broad range of knowledge of the governance and roles of
professional/charitable organisations
- Knowledge and experience of providing support and advice on
governance issues, preferably involving the interpretation of a charitable
Charter and by-laws to all levels of the organisation.
- Experience of governance administration; including elections,
ballots, AGM preparation.
- Experience of acting as Secretary to a number of bodies and
sub-committees.
- Experience in management and delivery of non financial audit
programmes
- The ability to manage staff and budgets effectively
