PARN Snapshots: Governance is the first in PARN's new Snapshot series of A5 guides, which are aimed at providing you with easily accessible information in a basic and easily digestible format.

This booklet outlines two common dilemmas faced by professional bodies regarding their governance:

• The first is the issue of what governance structure works best: what size should the governing body be? Is a dual or single governance structure more effective?
• The second examines the diversity, representation and skill set of the people who make up the governing body: what sort of people should sit on a governing body?

This guide draws together information from PARN's books, research projects, survey data and Members' Enquiries (consisting of information from PARN members across the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and Kenya) to help you get some answers to these difficult choices relating to governance.
