PARN Snapshots: Extent of CPD: The lifelong learning of millions

PARN Snapshots: Extent of CPD: The lifelong learning of millions

Authors: Andy Friedman and Natasha Afitska, Published: December 2009

Extent of CPD: The lifelong learning of millions is the fourth in PARN's unique Snapshot series of guides, which are aimed at providing you with easily accessible information in a basic and easily digestible format.

In this Snapshot we attempt to begin a general conversation about the importance of CPD by providing an indication of how widespread it is in the UK. We consider two questions:

• How many professionals are there in the UK?
• How many of them undertake CPD?

Estimating the number of professionals in the UK is a controversial and complex task. Estimating the number of professionals carrying out CPD is even more complex. We have carried out substantial research to make these estimates, however we regard this very much as a first attempt at it and therefore would welcome comments on our assumptions and methods to allow us to improve the estimates as well as apply the methods to other countries.

All PARN members will receive one free hard copy of Extent of CPD: The lifelong learning of millions. PARN members can download further electronic copies on the PARNPeople Reviews section. Non-PARN members can purchase copies online through the link below.
