Context
The PARN International Benchmarking Survey is a triennial survey of the professional bodies sector. It presents a snapshot of various aspects of professional bodies operations, from governance, income and membership to continuing professional development, ethics/discipline and external relations.
Launched in 2003 in the UK and Ireland, the survey gathered responses from 29 UK and 26 Irish professional bodies. Repeated in 2006 in those countries and rolled out in Australia and Canada, it received submissions from 110 professional bodies in the UK, 75 in Canada, 49 in Australia and 21 in Ireland. 2009 saw its third iteration, with 87 UK, 32 Canadian, 25 Australian and 11 Irish organisations responding.
