2 June 2009
Engineers Australia, Canberra
Context
As membership organisations, professional bodies traditionally have been led and governed by volunteers. However, as the functions of professional bodies become more business-like and strategic so the role of volunteers becomes more complex.
This conference aims to provide practical insights into and to stimulate debate and learning around, how professional associations can best make use of volunteer effort. It will examine the advantages and disadvantages of employing volunteers in particular roles, and the issues in relations between volunteers and staff. The event will also investigate appropriate staff/volunteer ratios and how they are affected by the size and situation of an organisation.
Are you generating enough volunteers? Are you using your volunteers successfully?
You should attend if:
You are thinking of reviewing the role volunteers play in your organisation.
You are thinking of reviewing your governing body or committee structure.
You would like to see how other organisations manage the relationship between governance and volunteers.
You would like to learn from other associations’ and organisations’ experiences in this area.
You are a volunteer or staff member who would like to experience different approaches and ideas of what works and what can be done.
