Woburn House, London
Professional bodies members are very often employers in their own right; fairer access to the professions requires that employers of graduates and new entrants into the professions follow practices which enhance diversity. This is especially topical with the government’s recent launch of The Social Mobility White Paper. This comes as Alan Milburn was appointed by Gordon Brown to chair a panel of industry leaders charged with producing policies to help people from disadvantaged backgrounds into the professions. Ministers have identified limited access to the professions, such as law, medicine, the senior civil service, media, finance and the upper ranks of the Armed Forces, as a serious obstacle to those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
This conference aims to provide practical advice and examples of interesting practice for employers wanting to ensure that they are embedding diversity and fairness into all their recruitment practices.
It will examine interesting practice in ‘diverse’ recruitment processes as developed by large professional services firms and SMEs; stimulate debate and learning around recruitment practices and highlight what you can do around the 6 diversity strands and other ‘barriers’ to the professions. It will also look at how using the Professional Recruitment Guide can help employers of professional people to find the best person for each vacancy they advertise, and how the Equality & Diversity toolkit can help professional organisations to embed awareness and support for diversity in their working practices.
Themes:
• Organisational processes for fairer recruitment
• Learning from other organisations and experts
• The 6 Diversity strands – gender, age, sexual orientation, religion and beliefs, ethnicity, disability
• Using the Professional Recruitment Guide
