In 2007, PARN looked at how the wider aspects of professionalism seem to be lost when policies aimed at skill and individual competencies for entry level professionals in vocational training, are applied to practicing professionals.
Ethical competence is put forward as a key distinguisher between simply having skills and expertise, and having a true sense of professionalism.
It is the stage beyond technical competence where ethical competence must be considered when extending policies to support skill and competencies to training and education for professional occupations.
Publications from this project
A book was published following this research project:
‘Positive supports for the ethical competence carried out by professional associations should be communicated to clients and the wider public.’
