Chair:
Andy Friedman – Director of PARN
Context for the workshop:
The November meeting will focus on the value of diversity
research in taking the E&D agenda forward.
Diversity research can be extremely useful in identifying
areas of poor diversity performance or underrepresentation that need to be
addressed. Research can also help us to gain organisational commitment to an
equality policy and programme of work. In fact, a piece of research can make
the case for developing regular diversity monitoring processes. On the positive
side, research can identify progress made and diversity strength within
professional bodies.
Andy Friedman will present in-depth research findings from
PARN’s 2009 International Benchmarking Survey of nearly 100 professional bodies
in the UK & Ireland – which Robin Lynn, former co-ordinator of the E&D
SIG helped to format the questions for. We’ll be comparing the data from 2006
with 2009, and asking for input from the group on what, if any, changes might
be made for our upcoming 2012 survey.
To finish, we’ll be hearing from the following speakers
about their own experiences in using research to gain organisational commitment
to E&D:
- Nicola Power, Research Manager at The Bar
Council
- Speaker from The
Law Society (TBC)
